Household Heater adds LCD, pretends to be Fireplace

LCD Fireplace

A Japanese manufacture has come up with a particular interesting mash up of a LCD television and a Heater to make the best fake fireplace we have seen. The base of the fireplace is actually just your run of the mill place heater that plugs directly into the wall. While the top of the unit is a LCD screen that displays a pretty good image of a fireplace. For 25,000 Yen or $241 USD, pretty cheap if you ask us, you can get a sweet faux fireplace that actually heats.

ReadyMade Magazine

ReadyMadeMagReadyMade is a bimonthly magazine featuring articles about home design, furniture and inexpensive ways to create great things for the home.

Here’s what they say: “ReadyMade is a bimonthly print magazine for people who like to make stuff, who see the flicker of invention in everyday objects — the perfectly round yolk in the mundane egg.”

I just recently subscribed to the magazine and I have to say it is well worth the money.  I did order my subscription off of eBay though.  And I got a 3 yr subscription for just $12.  If you like to make you house look good on the cheap then this mag will serve you well. Enjoy.

How IKEA Furniture Gets It’s Names.

Cool Ikea Furniture

IKEA products are identified by single word names, it founder Ingvar Kamprad, who is dyslexic found that naming the furniture with proper names and words, rather than a product code, made the names easier to remember. Most of the names are either Swedish, Danish, Finnish or Norwegian in origin. Although there are some notable exceptions names are based on a special naming system developed by IKEA.

Upholstered furniture, coffee tables, rattan furniture, bookshelves, media storage, doorknobs: Swedish place names.

Beds, wardrobes, hall furniture: Norwegian place names.

Dining tables and chairs: Finnish place names.

Bookcase ranges: Occupations.

Bathroom Articles: Scandinavian lakes, rivers and bays.

Kitchens: Grammatical terms, sometimes also other names.

Chairs, desks: Men’s names.

Materials, curtains: Women’s names.

Garden furniture: Swedish islands.

Carpets: Danish place names.

Lighting: Terms for music, chemistry, meteorology, measures, weights, seasons, months, days, boats, nautical terms.

Cool Furniture From Recycled Airplane Parts

Cool Airplane Desk

Moto Art is a company from California that takes old airplane parts and reworks them into great new pieces of functional art. They started in 1998 and have been creating specialty pieces ever since. “The rescue of these marvelous engineering components from yesteryear gives much joy as well as a feeling of being a small part of the great art of aviation.” says the head artist of Moto Art Donovan Fell. As you can see by the photos their creations are not only beautiful, but they are also completely functional. These are definitely some of the coolest pieces of recycled art/furniture I have seen.
